Brief History of Baptist College of THEOLOGY, IGEDE-EKITI
How it all began…
The history of Baptist College of Theology Igede-Ekiti can be traced back to the year 1949-1952 during the second tour of Rev and Mrs. John S. McGee, Missionaries of the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, USA. During these three years, Rev. McGee started the pre-seminary classes for students at Oke-Esu (now Oke Isodotun), Igede-Ekiti.
After the Nigerian Baptist Convention session held in Igede-Ekiti in April 1993, the Igede Baptist Community after due consultation and following approved guidelines for the establishment of the Theological Institution, set up a strategy committee whose immediate responsibilities include:
- Recommending steps for the resuscitation of the old Bible school at Oke Isodotun (Oke-Esu);
- Upgrading the school to the status of Theological College; and
- Financing and mode of fundraising.

We are owned by the Nigerian Baptist Convention and overseen by four Baptist Conferences in Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara, and Kogi.

As a Christian institution, Baptist College of Theology, Igede-Ekiti seeks to promote and exemplify in holding in high esteem faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and the emergent doctrines, the spreading of the Good News of the cross in all areas of Christian ministry, loyalty to Christ through personal commitment to living a religious life, and having impressive knowledge acquired by qualitative studying. Hence, the core values of the institution are faith, gospel proclamation, devotion, and erudition.

History Continues
The many firsts of BCTIE
In October 1994, having fulfilled the conditions provided for the immediate needs of the institution, arrangements for the opening of the College commenced. Three full-time staff were employed which included the Principal, the Gardener/messenger and the night Guard. Fund raising was by personal donation from members of the strategy committee and Church levy. For a start, the College offered courses leading to Certificate in Theology and Certificate in Religious Education. The duration, entry pre-requisite and course syllabus were stipulated by The Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso. In January 9, 1995, seven students enrolled in the certificate class.

The Journey Continues
The College was formally inaugurated on October 4, 1995 by the then General Secretary of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Revd. Dr. S. Ola Fadeji, who also approved the membership of the Board of Governors chaired by Deacon E. A. Alade. The ministerial Training Board of Nigerian Baptist Convention gave approval for the commencement of the Degree Programme of the College on April 4, 2014 and the first set of twenty-five students of the Degree programme matriculated on August 29, 2014. This was after the approval of the Baptist Accreditation Council of Theological Institutions in Nigeria (BACTSIN). The institution which started at Oke Isodotun moved to the present site along Aramoko Road Igede-Ekiti, on 25 January, 2001.
